Challenge
Many clinical trial participants do not represent the diverse world that we live in. The recruitment and involvement of more diverse participants could eventually lead to massive cost savings as the nation’s health disparities are reduced. But how do we increase access and build trust among community members of underrepresented groups?
Objective
Create a website that builds a bridge between organizations and brands that will encourage them to provide solutions in decrease future clinical trial disparities.
Opportunities
Amplifying the HUMAN need is essential to increasing public awareness of clinical trials. Understanding why is the first step in understanding the drivers between people's choices.
Solution 01: Build Trust
In order to increase awareness and access to clinical trials you have to building trust between medical clinicians and community members, particularly those a part of underrepresented groups.
Solution 02: Infographics and Images
Straightforward infographics and images can highlight key data points related to inequality awareness. Incorporating data visuals into the website design makes large blocks of critical information easier to digest and retain.
Solution 03: Animated Testimonials or Chatbot
Although there are ethical concerns around the trend of generative art, artificial intelligence (AI) can still be used to push awareness. Animated AI images, or digital people via machine learning, can be used to amplify written testimonies of previous trial participants and healthcare workers. Bringing these stories to life amplifies the hesitations, concerns, and lived experiences of participants without taking away from the overall objective.
Solution 04: Leverage Internal Database
Instead of driving to an external link, our team wanted to provide a way for visitors to write support letters directly on the site to prevent drop-off and increase metrics. The information received by those who use the feature can act as a resource for learning the concerns of participants by region.
Solution 05: Provide Resource Options
Offering additional media and resources from clinicians and health advocates creates a bridge between medical professionals and potential participants. These resources could include multi-language resources or answer frequently asked questions about the clinical trial process.
Persona Mapping
This process began with learning the key drivers and concerns of people who are hesitant about participating in clinical trials. After discovering their paint points, I developed user personas and journey maps to guide design decisions and discover potential opportunities to bring within the website.
